The newly founded Bifora Uhren-Manufaktur GmbH is linked to the past of the watch factory Biofra founded in 1900 in the Schwäbisch Gmünd. On 8.11.2014 she presented her first watch model in Schwäbisch Gmünd with the JB-60.
The name reminds the founder of the Biofra watch factory Josef Bidlingmaier. This was one of the most innovative pioneers of mechanical watches in Germany. As the first German watch manufacturer, Bifora was already able to show its own wristwatch in 1928. It was also a leader when the first German automatic movement was introduced in 1951.
In the heyday of the company, between 1960 and the beginning of the 1970s, Bifora produced wrist watches with over 1000 employees in Schwäbisch Gmünd. With the rising quartz age Bifora could not withstand the cheap wage competition from the Far East. Even the short-term shift of production to India could not save the company.
In the limited edition of 60 JB-60s, an original Biofra caliber 130 from 1965 is ticking. This hand-winding device is characterized by a large balance. It has a frequency of 18000 A / h and a reserve of about 50 hours. The factory is equipped with a Haas spiral and the Bifora-Bischock shock protection.

The classic original movement was refined by a watchmaker in Glashütte. The refinement of the gilded work includes Glashütterstreifen on elevator and gear bridge, Sonnenschliff on Sperr- and Kronrad, as well as line grinding on the balance cock.
The polished 316L stainless steel case combines simple elegance with traditional Bifora design elements and is manufactured in Pforzheim.
It is finished with anti-reflective and slightly curved sapphire glass. A lateral phase allows for refraction of light and underlines the high quality requirements. A special feature of the design is the targeted avoidance of right angles. Thus, the housing tapers slightly towards the bottom. It is waterproof up to 5 atm.
